The Free Marketing Analytics Toolkit: Official Tools and Guides
A short list of free, official tools for measuring marketing: analytics, search performance, campaign tagging, email reputation and on-page behaviour, with what each one is best for.
You do not need an expensive software stack to measure marketing properly. The free tools below, provided by the platforms themselves, cover most of what a small business or solo marketer needs.
Website analytics
- Google Analytics Help Center is the official documentation for Google Analytics 4, including setup guides and explanations of every report.
Search performance
- Google Search Console shows which searches bring people to your site, which pages are indexed, and technical problems Google has found. It is the most underused free marketing tool.
Campaign tracking
- The Campaign URL Builder creates UTM-tagged links. See our UTM parameters guide for a naming convention.
Email reputation
- Google Postmaster Tools lets senders monitor domain reputation, spam rates and authentication results for mail sent to Gmail users. Background in our SPF, DKIM and DMARC guide.
On-page behaviour
- Microsoft Clarity is a free tool that provides heatmaps and session recordings so you can see how visitors use a page. Review its privacy settings and update your privacy notice before installing any recording tool.
Learning
- HubSpot Academy offers free courses on inbound marketing, email, content and social media.
How to use them together
Search Console tells you what people searched before they arrived, Analytics tells you what they did on the site, UTM tags tell you which campaign sent them, and Clarity shows where they got stuck. Review them monthly alongside your content calendar and decide one thing to change each time.
