Before You Travel: Official Advice and Planning Resources
A curated set of official and long-trusted resources to check before an international trip: safety advice, health information, entry requirements and overland travel planning.
The best time to discover a visa requirement or a health recommendation is weeks before you leave, not at the check-in desk. These are the resources experienced travellers check first.
Safety and entry requirements
- GOV.UK foreign travel advice provides country-by-country safety information, entry requirements and local laws for British travellers, and is widely read by others.
- U.S. State Department travel information lists travel advisories, passport services and country information for U.S. citizens.
- Always check the official government or embassy website of your destination for current visa and entry rules, which can change at short notice.
Health
- CDC Travelers' Health gives destination-specific vaccine and health advice. Visit a doctor or travel clinic several weeks before departure.
Getting around
- The Man in Seat 61 is a long-running, independent guide to train and ferry travel around the world.
